First impressions and connections

My first week as a physiotherapist with Hub And Spoke Health has been a plentiful experience stepping into the homes of the different characters and personalities to provide our physiotherapy service. It’s been truly enjoyable to talk to each person and get to know a little more about them. From connecting through a few favourite Vietnamese dishes to learning some old Yiddish curses, there’s an abundance of quirks I saw from each individual whilst we try to help where we can as physiotherapists.

Something old, something new

One poignant moment for me was speaking about our shared cultural heritages and family histories to discover experiences from loved ones that we had in common. And bonding over the few Vietnamese words we have learnt in the past. Something that I personally enjoy very much, learning the different phrases and nuances of languages. Even in other cases where these people shared experiences that were new to me, it was still very insightful for me to hear about where each person’s roads in life had taken them and allowed me to reflect that process.

Healthy conversations and sharing experiences

Another individual whom I saw that had been living with multiple sclerosis over a long time told me about their experiences within the healthcare system and all the things they have tried that worked and those that didn’t work. It really highlighted that people living with chronic conditions can be very cognisant of what they need, and that their voice plays a huge part in planning what we do going forward.

Wagging tails are appreciated

Finally, a special mention to the furry pets that are also very excited and welcoming to us into their homes and allowing us the opportunity to provide some special physiotherapy belly rubs, you’ve been inspiring too.

How’s your first week with Hub And Spoke Health?

I had a great first week as a physio and I enjoyed getting to know my patients. They were all very friendly and we had some great conversations about life, health, and our views on healthcare.
