What is a therapy assistant?

Therapy Assistants, also known as allied health assistants, are there to support participants and health practitioners such as physiotherapists, exercise physiologists and occupational therapists.

Their role is to provide therapeutic support. This often involves implementing exercise programs under the guidance of a health practitioner. However, therapy assistants are not replacements of your usual health practitioner. They are limited in the ability to make clinical assessments and recommend new treatments.

Exercise methods used by allied health assistants may include active stretching, balance and proprioception, strengthening, muscle energy techniques, hydrotherapy and movement-based conditioning.

Why have a mobile therapy assistant in your team?

Therapy assistants are a cost-effective way of continuing to provide treatment for participants as they are billed at a much lower rate. A therapy assistant may be billed at 2-3 times lower than a health practitioner.

By having a therapy assistant, you will be able to double or triple your therapy input, without going over your budget.

Therapy Assistance with Hub Spoke and Health

Allen is a 25 year old male with cerebral palsy and is currently receiving home-based physiotherapy from Hub and Spoke Health (formerly Home Physio Melbourne). He is currently being seen once a fortnight by physiotherapy as allowed by his budget. However, he finds difficulty with motivating himself to complete his exercises between each session.

Josh, our therapy assistant, now visits Allen in between each physiotherapy session. Now Allen is receiving twice the amount of therapy input without increasing his budget. Most importantly, Allen is now able to achieve his goals of being stronger and more mobile sooner.

Our Hub and Spoke Allied Health Assistants

Our mobile Allied Health services

Our Hub & Spoke practitioners will bring their equipment with them so you get the full benefit of a clinic visit without leaving your home. The biggest benefit of assessing you at home is we get to understand your home environment.  As a result, we can make instant changes to anything that could be contributing to your aches and pains, or restrictions in movement.

Our initial consultations run for 1-hour and follow-up appointments for 30-45 minutes, potentially reducing the number of visits you’ll need and providing value for money.

Mobile Physiotherapy

We’ll bring our experience and equipment to your home to provide the best evidence-based Physiotherapy to support you to move and live better.
